25 minutes
Serves 10 hungry adults
Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds ground turkey (ground beef works too)
1 Tbsp. dried oregano
1 Tbsp. dried basil
1 Tbsp. minced garlic
2 Tbsp. garlic salt
1-6 oz. can tomato paste (We paid 69 cents!)
1-14.5 oz. can of diced tomatoes (We paid $1!)
2-14.5 oz. cans of water (Use tomato can to measure. This is free!)
1/2 cup heavy cream (whole milk or half and half will also work)
1 box spaghetti pasta (www.makedinner.net prefers Barilla Whole Grain Spaghetti)
Fresh parmesan cheese
Make Dinner:
Fill large pasta pot with water and place over high heat. Add a small handful of salt to the water to flavor the pasta.
While pasta water is heating, brown ground meat in large skillet with high sides. Add oregano, basil, garlic and salt to meat and stir well while cooking. Once meat is cooked through, add tomato paste. This will thicken the sauce later. Add can of tomatoes. Stir. Add both cans of water. Mix well and simmer for 15 minutes over medium heat or until sauce is thickened. When sauce is thick, remove from heat and mix in 1/2 cup of heavy cream. The cream will give the sauce amazing homemade color and richness.
While sauce is simmering, add 1 box of spaghetti pasta to boiling pasta water. Stir immediately to keep pasta from clumping. Boil pasta for 8 minutes or until cooked 'al dente' (not too soft, not to hard). Drain pasta and serve immediately.
To serve, cover heaping helpings of pasta with plenty of sauce. Top with fresh Parmesan cheese. Serve with crusty Italian bread, a green salad, and your favorite bottle of wine.
