TOP 5 REASONS WE DON'T MAKE DINNER
.) "I need to go to the store." While we certainly agree that a lack of ingredients leads to a barren table, we recommend a little bit of planning to make your life (and your family's) easier and more delicious. We go to the grocery store every weekend, as many of us do. However, our shopping method is just a little bit different than the rest. Never do we browse recipes before shopping. That's right! We have no idea what we're going to make until we get home from the market. How can this be, you ask? Because we are bargain shoppers. When we arrive at the store, we are on a mission to buy one thing and one thing only: raw food. We don't buy pre-packaged pastas or frozen meals. We buy what is on SALE! If pork is on sale, we are going to make a delicious Pork Roast with Red Potatoes. If ground beef is on sale, we're going to make Chipotle Cheeseburgers or Pineapple Teriyaki Sliders or...you get the idea. Of course, we ensure we buy a variety of proteins each week. We recommend purchasing one package of beef, one package of pork, 1-2 packages of chicken and one package of fish each week to ensure variety. The exact cuts of beef, pork, chicken and fish that we purchase are dictated by the pricetags of each. Once we return home with our sacks of succulent delights then, and only then, do we begin to plan our meals. That said, WE PLAN OUR MEALS THE SECOND WE RETURN HOME FROM THE STORE. As we are unpacking our groceries, we begin a list of meals. We make a list, Monday through Friday, and assign a delicious dinner to each day. That way, come Wednesday night, we know exactly what's on the menu and that we have all of the ingredients to make it. How do we come up with our meal ideas? We search www.makedinner.net of course!
.) "I forgot to thaw something." Once we have created our weekly menus, this challenge is a breeze to overcome. Every morning before we leave the house, we simply consult the menu we created on the weekend. We don't even have to think about it! We remove the meat that we need for dinner from the freezer and place it in the refrigerator. By the time we return home in the evening, we have something fresh and delicious thawed and ready to prepare.
.) "Our lives are too busy." As parents of three young boys (ages 3, 5 and 9) we at www.makedinner.net understand this barrier perfectly. However, we have to overcome. We have found that taking 30 minutes out of a busy today to bring the family together to share a meal not only fills our bellies, it grounds us as people. It gives us an opportunity to share and to understand each others' busy lives. If you're on the run between football, soccer and swimming lessons, we understand! When we create our weekly menus, we take into account our busiest days and plan accordingly. On www.makedinner.net (Search 'Quick') there are plenty of quick meals under 30 minutes to help you overcome the challenges of the busy weeknight. There are also plenty of make ahead tips. For example, create a delicious pan of Baked Ziti on a lazy Sunday afternoon and bake it off in the middle of a crazy work week. Dinner disaster avoided!
.) "I don't know how to cook." This one, we can help you overcome. While we know that cooking is not on everyone's Favorites List, it is on ours! Let us do the dirty work.
